I have found that Avast does not scan any of my emails. There is no Avast plugin present in Outlook and I cannot find where to get it. I understand that it has been causing problems in the past. The only information I can find is how to remove it. Is there now a plugin for this? Or what email program do I have to use so Avast will scan them? I use Peoplepc and they scan them but I also got a virus in the past from one of them. I would appreciate any help with this.
Windows XP home sp3
Microsoft Office 2000
Avast 7.0.1466 Thanks - Bob
Hi and welcome to the forum.
When starting up Outlook you should see the Avast Plug-in ‘splash screen’.
I had an issue similar, a few months ago and did a “Repair” of Avast which resolved the issue at that time.
TO repair Avast: Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘Avast!’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow instructions/reboot.
Did that help?
Edit:I actually use Outlook 2003 but I think (not absolutely sure)the same process should work for Outlook 2000
I’ve tried both of these options to no avail. I thank you for trying to help. I have seen a website somewhere to download version 6. I may try that. I only have accelerated dial up and it takes hours to update the virus database. Providing I don’t lose my internet connection in the middle of it. I hate that!!
Well even with the worst dial-up the incremental auto virus definitions update shouldn’t take hours as they are measured in KBs and not MBs.
So there is something else in the mix that you haven’t mentioned (?), changing back to avast 6 won’t change the incremental auto virus definitions updates as they use the same update stream.
Not to mention you have better protection in avast7 and now that you have it, it is better to fix it than switch it. If there is no avast plug-in for Outlook 2000, no problem the Mail shield takes over the scanning of your email. You may have to make a modification to your Outlook email accounts (if they use SSL) so that the mail shield can take care of SSL and be able to scan your email.
