I don’t see any scan options listed in the scan now tab. Just a blank space under the scan now header. The only way I can scan is to create my own using the ‘create custom scan’ at the very bottom. Now that works fine but I’m wondering if something happened during installation?

- OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)

- Which AV did you use before avast!..??
Avast internet security 7. Windows XP pro SP3. AVG free was used before as main program. I also have malwarebytes, superantispyware and spybot
First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AVs.

- Download avast! Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
- Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
- Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
- Reboot.
PS: I would also drop Spybot.
would you re-install in safe mode?
Use the uninstall utility in safe mode, but reinstall in normal mode with admin rights.
Agree with Asyn about getting rid of Spybot, also make sure that with Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware that only one of them is running in realtime if you have pro licenses for them.

Well not completely certain but I do believe the problem was I had not removed AVG entirely before installing.
