No reaction from Avast

the lack of reaction from Avast leads me to considering to changing my antivirus provider. any suggestion/s) ?

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.

A lack of reaction to what and what have you tried would be a good start ?

i sent in a false positive. no reaction

  • You won’t get a direct response but it should be analysed within 48 hours, if found to be false it will be removed.

There are sites that can also check a site link and or file upload, this could give an indication of A: other AVs detecting and B: what might be the cause of the detection..

i used virustotal … no threat found, i reported more then one week ago (so well over the 48 hours deadline), still virus reported. o check for new virus definitions at least twice a day, i would have seen change … btw virustotal seems to be unable to connect to avast … see report(s)

as is crucial (firewall) software from well known vendor, i don’t go any risk.

You may not have noticed that Avast isn’t on the VirusTotal list for checks against URLs.

This is because the Web Shield only scan in an on-access (live scan) way of the site you are visiting and not on-demand as in VirusTotal.

That is why I gave the other links, VT to see what other AVs think and the other two as they do a more in-depth scan of what is going on with your site and third party links.

in fact VirusTotal now reports:
VirIT Trojan.Win32.NSISGenT.ACTO … which is strange qnd wasn’t before
Avast reportsTimeout
others report undetected …

strange

I’m really am unsure of what the issue is, not knowing the site I can’t do any checks, but Avast on VT doesn’t scan URLs as I mentioned. So I scanned a known good domain and Avast isn’t on the list of AVs that ran a scan in the results.

I strongly recommend changing.

MOST IMPORTANT - If you are going to change make sure that you fully disable auto renew. I even cancelled my credit card and they still got two of the three programs renewals past my bank.

I lodged the “I did not want to renew” complaint after about 48 hours and next morning got a reply from mailto:support@help2.avast.com with a large number of questions that required screen shots so I wasted an hour on completing that.

Every time I hit send on that mail to " support@help2.avast.com" I get a message saying

To add insult to injury they keep sending me surveys asking me to say what a great company they are and telling me that my payment for the third program has failed.

I forgot to say do not change to Norton because Avast is owned by Norton.

good to know. i did not yet go for paid license (these are sometimes pain when cancelling)
