I had a kind of loop when doing a version update from 1456 to 1466 whereby the indication was that the update was done, but when I clicked the “OK” button I then saw an “Update version” button with indication below I was still on 1456 and so I repeated and this went on again and finally I figured a restart might be needed and sure enough now it shows as having been updated to 1466.
But shouldn’t the update package provide some sort of notification that a restart should be done?
EDIT:Better make the edit this way. Wrong vocabulary up there. The button read “Update Program” and then below was the “Current version” as 7.0.1456.
No. I was just noting that I reboot just as a matter of protocol whether suggested/indicated or not
On a side note, you may want to hide your email from the public in your profile settings as Spammers are known to troll the forum to harvest email addresses.
Just saying.
If you go to Profile/ Account Settings and look to see if you have “Allow users to email me” Unchecked. If this box is checked I believe the email envelope shows below your name when posting.
Uncheck this box and the envelope should then not appear for public viewing/use. 8)
I see what you mean. No problem with that. That account already requires constant cleaning due to its connection with another website that I administer that really brings out the crazies on the news side. I only handle their forum, but that’s been for many years and all sorts of spam goes to that account. If any were coming because of here I wouldn’t notice.
Appreciate the concern, though. Guess I haven’t paid much attention for a number of years to that email thingy on this site. Just hope if anyone really wants my attention through that email account and it’s legit that they use a good subject line. “Hi, it’s me.” sure won’t work.
Just did another computer and this time I DID receive a “Need to Restart” notice, so I guess the glitch in the one earlier this morning was simply that the popup didn’t show.
As a rough rule of thumb, applications which start up when windows does (like avast) will usually require a reboot after updating/upgrading so that the correct version is loaded into active memory.
