No "Scan Now" buttons and I don't know why

(Tried to make a screen shot of this but it won’t work for some reason)

Just updated my free version 4 to 5.0.418. I’m running Windows XP, downloaded it through Firefox. I have Malawarebytes, StopZilla (but I don’t use it) and CCleaner on my computer as well

When I updated it every thing seemed perfect. The license updated, file system says that it’s running. It let me set up a boot-time scan.

But when I go to “Scan Computer” all I can see is the heading (“Scan Now: You can use the controls below…”) and pictures of magnifying glasses. Nothing to actually use the program. I try clicking on things and nothing happens.

I’ve searched through the Help Center in the program and Support on the website and can find nothing on this subject.

So…what do I do now?

Any help will be appreciated.

Have you done a reboot after install ?
Have you tried avast repair and reboot ?

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Definitely try a reboot as the first step. I got the same thing after installing 5 (over 4.8 ) and rebooting … it took a second reboot to get a number of things, including that scan screen, displaying and working properly.

Hi

Really wish Avast would add a " Please Restart Your Computer " message … After installation of Avast 5 :frowning:

I’m sure this would solve a lot of problems ::slight_smile:

When I installed Avast 5 on my laptop…
Because I wasn’t asked to Restart after installation ???
I decided it must be OK to open Avast 5 and Register.
Avast 5 … Didn’t Open!
So … I Did Restart!
And… Everything was fine after that 8)

When it came time to install Avast 5 on my desktop computer…
Just made sure I remembered to Restart my computer before trying to open Avast 5 ;D

Avast 5 .. Didn't Open!

I’m Glad It Didn’t Open!
Coz… That’s where peoples problems seem to start ::slight_smile:
If they try to Register or use Avast 5 … Before Restarting The Computer!

PS.
Does anyone else on this forum… Keep getting the odd gap appear in the lines of their typing? ???

It should definitely ask for a reboot. That is, it is programmed to, why it didn’t is beyond me…

Not sure, where are you seeing this?

If they try to Register or use Avast 5 .. Before Restarting The Computer
this is my wild guess it may fail, coz... firewall treat them as a guest or shadow and it will not take effect after the next reboot but some os no need to reboot, but it is highly recommended to reboot coz that is security software that need to be adapted by OS :-*

Hi SCOTT

Don’t Know!
Perhaps if people update from… Avast 4.8 - To - Avast 5 … They get asked to Restart
Perhaps if people do a clean install of… Avast 4.8 - To - Avast 5 … They don’t get asked to Restart :frowning:

Re: My Lines
I can type a line like this one.
And like this one.
But sometimes they come out like…
I can type a line like this one.

And like this one.

Thanks!

Don't Know! Perhaps if people update from.. Avast 4.8 - To - Avast 5 ... They get asked to Restart :) Perhaps if people do a clean install of.. Avast 4.8 - To - Avast 5 ... They don't get asked to Restart :(

I don’t think it is that, maybe something else…I’m pretty sure there are people who did both that did/didn’t get asked to restart…

As for the spaces in the lines, I don’t know, I haven’t seen it…

If you use Internet Explorer, it acts strangely in the forums sometimes. Try Chrome or Firefox.
