Was checking the Avast definitions and saw that there have been no streaming updates for approx four hours. I noticed the “Release date” on the Avast UI was several hours old so I checked the defs folder in Program Files and saw there were no streaming folder(s), just the main signature folder which for me currently is 240109-2.
I have (and always had) “Enable Streaming updates” checked. I ran a repair and restarted my computer but this hasn’t changed anything.
I know sometimes there are lengthy pauses in definitions updates so I was wondering if others are/were experiencing this.
Looks like main signature updates are still working, at least when you manually Check for Updates, as I am now at 240109-4. Still no streaming updates.
I noticed the same thing as you, but I think with the update you made to 240109-4. These updates should already be included even though they are not shown.
That’s the latest package but even after the big package updates there are still (or at least should be) streaming updates every 3-4 minutes after and in between those.
But as long as you’re saying you’re seeing the same thing (I assume both in the UI and in the defs folder), then I guess I can breathe a sigh of relief as perhaps it’s something on Avast’s end.
Looks like we’re back to the regular streaming schedule. Got a bunch that came in at 4:30 pm EST, then another large batch at 4:54 pm, followed by receiving a new one every few minutes as per normal.
I know it has been said that not all users get updates or definitions pushed to them at the same time, so maybe yours is lagging a bit. I didn’t have to do any manual updates for the streaming updates to start flowing in.
As new VPS updates arrive they would have the previous streaming update incorporated, so there is a strong likelihood that previous streaming updates would be cleared. So it make a while for them to build again.
Yep, they just started a few minutes ago for me. Looks like the same for you. I can tell in your screen shot that you have a bunch that came in at the same time.
I believe mine is showing up as a video file, it must be because when I installed my video program I set it to read all the extensions, but I didn’t know that the video program also reads the bin file. I don’t even know how to fix it. Oh, I left it like that.
If you have a solution for this, tell me and I’ll do it. ;D
Interesting. I also use VLC player and don’t have the .bin files showing as video files. Then again I just set VLC as the default video player from my Windows settings.
Only fix I can think of is uninstalling VLC and reinstalling it.
