no systray icons :/

hi all, first post, hurrah!

i’ve trolled through the other forum and it was suggested to fix a no systray icon problem to uprade to the beta, which i’ve done, but still have no icon.

I can run the Avast! External Controller and switch them on, but I don’t particularly want to have to run that every time I switch on the computer.

Can you give me any clues as to where the icon has gone, and why it won’t stay after reboots? Avast appears to still be running in the background according to taskinfo, however when I run the Eicar.com test file i have here, I don’t get a peep out of it.
I run athlon64 win2k sp4 all security updates etc.
would having Lavasoft’s Adwatch affect Avast! ?

If i can’t get this fixed up, i’m afraid it’s back to AVG for me!

Cheers
JJ

Is ashDisp.exe in the process list?

Hey… You merely knows avast power ;D
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window.

Welcome on board

Hi guys, thanks for replying.

Vlk, I don’t have that task running on my system. I have AshServ.exe and aswUpdSv.exe running, they’re all i can find to do with Avast!.

I just tried a repair, Technical, to no avail  I clicked repair, it came up with a box and did a few things, then disappeared with no notification like “OK, now you’re all fixed!” I rebooted, and still no icon

thanks guys!

Hmmm - i have no icons either.
I do have Ashdisp.exe running

xp pro, sp2 - avast up to date.

Uninstall > Boot > Install > Boot
Or better, wait until Saturday (tomorrow) to get version 4.5:
Tomorrow: Uninstall 4.1 > Boot > Install 4.5 > Boot

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
