no update function

Hello, all together!
I read and searched something correspondend to my prbl. in your forum but noything had concretely matched (?..).
Since sept. 1st, when avast 4 updated automatically for the last time correctly its database, no updates arrived further more.
I’ve a similar prbl with windows XP update, it seems that the Update function is seriously damaged by a worm or other.
Manual update doesn’t run in Avast (but ok in WXP), no window opens when i try to manually update.
Thanks for your help!

  • If you have the home version, the update license expires after 14 months. Could this be the case here? If so, you need to get a free new key.
  • Already checked Avast’s log file?
  • Have you run a full system scan?
  • Have you run a online scanner?

You can check the status of the license in the program’s About box.

No, it’s not a problem of registation. I’m using avst 4 since april 2004. No, I can’t access tu manual update page, last automatic update was 1st sept.

If you can’t update, even manually, and you have Internet working, this will be a problem of the firewall almost for sure… Which one do you use? Are avast! allowed to connect the Internet?

I’ve noyhing changed at my firewall. 3 days ago, i manually updated to WXP SP2, but there i allowed avast to access.
No one of my prbls (auto-update of avast or even WXP) was resolved with this.
When i open avast and when, i click on “start update assistant” nothing happens inspite of change of colour of the text (blue to red).

If you disable your firewall (which one do you use?) what will you get?

No satifaction!
Some days ago, i installed a soft named “Steganos”. I’m not suren but i think it has bad influence on update fction of avast, windows, and ???.
Simply, i uninstalled avast (possible only with the utility.), lavasofts adware and steganos. Then i reinstalled avast and adware, all run’s fine for the moment.

Thanks for your interest and help.

Telling us Steganos is a rather generic meaning … as the company sells many different programs. Which of their programs were you trying to use? ???
