No update notification or sounds.

Hi All, I recently installed Avast! v8 on a fresh install of windows 8 pro x64 and I’m not getting any update notification or update sounds, even though both are enabled. I’m getting my updates fine just no notifications or sounds. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Would a re-install solve this?

Some others are reporting this but I don’t believe reinstalling is worth the trouble involved.

You could try an avast Repair, no idea what the win8 settings are for this. If you can find (and report) the equivalent win8 settings and give this a shot. Control panel, Programs & Features, select avast, uninstall/change and select Repair from the next window.

Hi DavidR, I tried it still no joy. The setting are the same in windows 8 as above. Thanks anyway it was worth a shot.

I had the same problem on Windows 8 until I disabled quick boot in power options.

If you have quickboot enabled Avast will see that as a hibernation and so it will stick to the 4hour update cycle
If the computer is not on for that long it will never check

I suspected as much, which is why a reinstall was also unlikely to have had an impact either.

Hibernation has be disabled and hence quick boot has also been disabled since soon after install of windows 8

Just to be clear: I’m getting my Avast updates on a reguale basis, it’s just the update notifications I’m not getting.

Yes, the main thing is that the updates are still working and as mentioned some others are reporting this also. So me I would just ride it out for a while, whilst monitoring that the updates are happening.

You’re welcome, the pop-up and audible notices are working on my other win7 system, I’m just waiting on it being spat out on this XP Pro system. I can’t recall hearing it, but when I right click the avast tray icon and select ‘Show last pop-up message’ it shows the update for 130317-0, so it must have popped up. I didn’t see it as I have the pop-up duration dialled down to 1 second.
