I’ve avast 4.8 version & its vrdb was last updated on 11/22/2008. Since then,my antivirus hasn’t updated & security center indicates the antivirus to be outdated. I’ve kept automatic updates on “on” mode but even then it is not getting updated. I tried to manually update it but it isn’t helping either. My registration key hasn’t expired even then why is the software not getting updated? Please tell me what should i do!!
What firewall program are you using and, are you allowing avast! access to the internet ???
Is avast.setup allowed to connect in your firewall?
Do you have any other antivirus installed in this computer? Had in the past?
Avast is allowed to connect thru my firewall & i’ve no other antivirus installed in my pc. Also,i am a user of avast for 2 years now,& i never encountered such a problem before. From then my firewall settings have remain unchanged. Also,i got one more problem, whenever i switch on my pc just 5 minutes after that an avast warning regarding a suspicious file pops up.It has been a month now & i delete that file everytime i get that warning.
It may help if you give us some more information on this popup, especially if your problem seems to start at the time this popup appeared.
Also, check avast logs and post any file (with its path) that is being detected.
I also suggest you follow the general cleaning procedure:
- Clean your temporary files.
- Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
- Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete them.
- Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
- Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
- Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
- Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
- Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
That didn’t answer the what firewall question, as some have been known to experience these problems even when nothing has changed in the settings.
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avast.setup internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update (right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select Updating, iAVS Update), this will force the firewall to ask permission again.
I didnt note the name of every suspicious file but i have started doing so.When i started my pc today a warning popped up regarding a file named:
C:\2u.com
I deleted that file.
Did you follow the steps I’ve posted before?
Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
Whist I’m suspicious of these very short file names, especially with .com extensions I would still recommend you send to the chest and investigate.
Like check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here the URL in the Address bar of the VT results page.
You can’t do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.
David is right since … 2u.com … can be a sign of farther malware infection on your computer. For information on this, please read the link below :

I followed all the steps posted by u except for the following ones:
:Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
:Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
Actually,i dont know how to ‘Disable System Restore’.I followed all other steps & with ‘malwarebytes anti-malware’ i got rid of all my trojans & malicious files. It couldnt delete some files even after repeated scanning so i used file ‘assassin tool’ & deleted around 25 malicious files. When i scanned with ‘m-bam’ today,it showed no malicious files.
One more thing,i’m unable to uninstall avast antivirus. When i try to delete it manually by deleting its 'alwil software’folder it shows that access is denied. Also, when i try to manually update it there is no response. Please tell me if there is any way to uninstall avast from my pc.I have heard that presence of multiple antiviruses can hurt my pc.
Please help…
