Nonexistent service loaded by Avast

After updating Avast to the latest version (2014.9.0.2018) multiple errors of a nonexistent service appear in the Event Viewer:

The avast! HardwareID service failed to start due to the following error:
The specified procedure could not be found.

Looking in the Services program in Windows 8, the service doesn’t exist at all. Perhaps a bug?

This error will reappear whenever I restart and turn off/turn on the computer.

This error stops after a while, however.

This is no help for you, but it is also happening to my machine since the latest update.

I guess it’s related to the grimefighter stuff, but I’m not sure at all… I hope someone could provide you some directions

Hi,

that’s normal and will be found at all clients since the latest update:

It certainly isn’t normal and will hopefully be fixed soon.

Hi,

disable under Settings, uncheck box troubleshooting the hardware assisted virtualization, then reboot the system.

Solution of Asyn from the german part at this forum …

I tried that but it doesn’t work for me.

Maybe this makes the written instructions a bit clearer:

Thanks, that’s what I did. It didn’t get rid of the errors, so I enabled it again. I’ve just disabled it again and, after a reboot, I have three of the errors on startup.

It would probably be helpful if you listed your Operating System (32 or 64 bit) and any other security programs running on your system.

Hi, I’m running XP Pro SP3, 32 bit. It’s an old computer with an AMD Sempron 2200+ processor, 1.5 GHz, 1.0 GB of RAM. The only other security program I have is Malwarebytes.

Is the above information not helpful? Do you need to know anything else?

@LindaB1:

Any chance you are running XP in a Virtual Machine environment?
Any chance you have Hardware Virtualization enabled in your BIOS (if that options exists for your old mobo)?
FYI, I don’t think your Sempron supports AMD-V or the above BIOS option.

FYI, I am running Windows 8.1.1. I have a CPU that supports Hardware Virtualization. I have that option turned off in my BIOS. I do not get that error message.

Please consider the above as just “food for thought.”

Good luck to you.

Hi, I’m not running in a Virtual Machine environment. I don’t know what Hardware Virtualization is, but I doubt I have it enabled as I wouldn’t know how to enable it.

Thanks for the good luck, I think I need it!
