Normal background scan causes mouse to flicker busy

During a normal background scan of the system, the mouse icon in keeps flashing busy. This flickering is driving me nuts, how do I get avast to stop making the mouse cursor busy.
Avast 4.8.1368 Free Home Edition running in Windows Vista Home Premium SP2

Thank you for any help.

Why do you think it is avast related?
Any other security program that could interfere?

I know it’s Avast related, I don’t have any other security program, when the cursor starts blinking busy, and I go check what avast is doing, it’s busy scanning the hard drives. When I pause avast the busy cursor flicking stops, and then only starts back up again when I resume avast. This happens every time.
I have another computer with identical setup but doesn’t have avast on it, it never gets a busy cursor flickering.

What is the sensitivity of the providers set to, especially the standard shield?

The sensitivity for standard shield is set to “High”, all sensitivities are set to high.

Set them all to normal. Post back with the result.
Normal (default) works fine.

I set everything to Normal, and the cursor still flickers busy when it is doing it’s background scan.

Stabbing in the dark a bit, here, but do you have 3rd party mouse controls installed? Is it a wireless, built in, or plug in mouse?
Laptop or desktop?

And just confirm this happens all the time? Or only when Avast has been set to run a scan?

I don’t have any third party mouse controls installed, just a plain 3 button mouse with scroll, no special drivers needed to use it, desktop computer, Windows Vista Home premium sp2.
The busy icon only happens while avast is doing it’s background scans, it happens every time. When I pause the background scanning the busy icon flickering goes away. I don’t have any other AV or security software installed.

I think it’s normal. Windows cleanup does the same thing (well, the whole screen flickers) when it’s running and minimized.

Something about a program that’s scrolling text (especially when minimized) causes weird flickering. I ignore it, or run the program with it still on my screen (un-minimized). it doesn’t bother me though.

Never mind, I mis-interpreted the post. I thought the mouse icon was flashing, now I see that it’s just going to the “busy” animation, when the background process of scanning shouldn’t be causing it. Sorry!
