Norton and Avast

Can i have my Norton system work 2004 and avast be installed on the same machine?

Yes as long as you don’t install Norton Antivirus when you install System Works.

Better will be installing avast before, booting, install NSW2004 (WITHOUT NAV)

On XP Family, my licence for Norton 2004 has exipred. How can I uninstall Norton to let AVAST take full control. I cannot find any program or option to uninstall Symantec programs. ??? Can anyone help ?

In few words:

  1. Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
  2. Use Symantec removal tool (browse their site to get it, there are one for each antivirus series). Boot.
  3. Install avast! Boot.
  4. See what you get.

Another link worth looking at which is a program removal tool, which can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT

Just to be sure run this utility after you have used the add remove programs and boot then install avast.

please make this link as a sticky forum entry. I see many posts related to this problem.

Only Moderators can make a thread sticky.

  1. Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
The problem : On XP Family, NAV is NOT registered in the Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel, even for Administrator.

  2. Use Symantec removal tool (browse their site to get it, there are one for each antivirus series). Boot.
I will try this tool, thanks.

But, is it Norton SystemWorks? Inside of the Suite removal there is the option to uninstall only Norton Antivirus.
