norton antivirus won't install correctly

A friend of mine has had trouble with Norton Antivirus for the last month running XP Home. We went and bought new Internet Security 2004 even though it was what he was already running. I deinstalled all of the old program and installed new but the problem remains the same. Internet security runs OK, but Antivirus will not start. Additionally the system will not allow access to any Symantec web site even though we can surf anywhere else without a problem, so of course we cannot contact support. During a pre-install scan we encountered 2 instances of “bloodhound w32” infections and were able to quarentine them, but still can’t install Antivirus. Another error we received at one point was in a NAVAPSVC window “Service could not be deleted” Any help would be appreciated.

Please read the link “VirusRemoval” below in my sig., and then:

  • post a hijackthis-Log
  • post the contents of the HOST(s) file on your PC (use WinExplorer’s Search…)
  • try some Onlinescanners, e.g. Trend, RAV, COD
