I received Norton systemworks 2006 as a gift last Christmas, but am not impressed with Norton antivirus. My question is, can I uninstall the antivirus part of norton and use Avast but still keep the rest of systemworks? Will this cause any problems with Avast?
Sure. At least versions prior 2006 had option not to install Norton Antivirus.
So you could use some other AV and keep all the other Norton tools from SystemWorks package.
If so, I’d suggest you uninstall all the suite, all Norton Systemworks, clean your system as posted bellow and then, install avast, boot, install Norton Systemworks without NAV.
Removing NAV:
1) Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
2) Use Symantec removal tool following the three steps defined in the SymNRT[/url] tool info:

3) Boot.
4) Install avast! Boot.
5) See what you get.
