Norton TV Commercial Pointedly Dumps On Free Security Solutions

Oh yes, they went there>>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0T3Vf37lNU

Caught this on TV last night, felt a bit insulted.

See, I might have felt inclined perhaps to use Norton someday, can’t say I was walled off to the possibility.

But now they have done called me a dill-headed winker toss, so they have lost me as a customer before they ever had a chance to snag me. ;D

For the record, no one has ever done a drive-by with a beverage on me for recommending Avast!, buy me one, perhaps, not throw one on me.

Norton must really be feeling the pinch from all the good free av’s around now if they have to resort to tv ad’s, we dont get any ad’s about norton over here in Aus.
Maybe avast should run an ad ( not that they need to with such a huge user base ) about why waste your money on over bloated and over priced av’s when you can have Avast ;D

Yeah, it is unusual to see anything not from MS advertised on tv…there is an exception…mycleanpc.com, which is of course CyberDefender, I see an ad for that all the time…pleasant company for Symmantec to be in.

What would you expect of a company like Symantec?
I’m not surprised at all… I’m sorry for their users.

Yes they even commissioned a test to supposedly show the supremacy of Norton or paid versions over free and avast free came second ;D

They can’t have liked or remembered that test or the other independent tests that also show avast in a better light.

What Norton have failed to mention in their advert is that it will slow your computer right down and miss a lot of the viruses/malware that FREE AVs such as Avast will detect and remove.

I stopped using Norton years ago and am quite surprised people out there still use it.

Here’s a little tip for anyone who has bought a laptop/Pc with norton installed…

  1. Go to add/remove programs, find Norton and click uninstall

  2. Download the removal tool and wipe it clean away from your system as it leaves a lot of traces behind after uninstallation.

When I bought my laptop three years ago I did just that.It had a three month trial of Norton on it.I did not even try it but downloaded Avast instead on recommendation of my brother.Never looked back since.

I never used a single day of the Symantec trial version… The first boot, the uninstall and install avast
