NoScript (1.9.9.60) adds "site info"

OK, no big deal so far, you already got such a functionality with access to online services reviewing web sites (based on users’ votes), but there should be new tools coming, what I have no idea. As some of you know, many sites labeled as safe aren’t safe at all (proof is users reporting malware detection on the forums here, when WOT for instance says “SAFE” ;D )… so I’m not ecstatic about this new version of NS >>> see screen shot (you get this by hitting shift while clicking on a site entry in the NS menu).

If you don’t like it, then don’t use it.

Whilst I have the WOT add-on for firefox, but I don’t take it as gospel that what it says it 100% accurate.

The same would be true with this extra function in NS, advisory especially as siteadvisor frequently has old data on its database making it less than accurate. WOT being community based is likely to be more up to date but relies on the quality of the reporting member, rubbish in rubbish out.

If you don't like it, then don't use it

you bet ;D that’s almost a way to deny someone the right to criticize anything but never mind, since you’re saying yourself that you’re quite aware of the lack of accuracy of these sites, we’re good
This said, NS being one of the most accurate security tools itself, I would have preferred it to say away from such bs imo. Anyway, they mention on the site that more tools are coming, so this could become more interesting.

For the worldly wise, like you or I, this additional feature will be of little benefit.

However, for those not familiar with the risks of scripts running on a site you haven’t ever visited it can be daunting making a decision to let scripts run for that site or not. That is where the extra advice may be helpful, but given it isn’t 100% it could be wrong, but it is better than no information at all.

It’s not so much that NS is the most accurate security tool as it doesn’t make any decisions, blocks everything unless the user makes a decision otherwise. So I guess they are trying to give the user more information to make that decision, though consulting this extra site info in the course of routine browsing is going to take a lot of time.

Yes it will be interesting to see what these other tools will be.

no it doesn’t take any decision, but it’s there to warn you when nothing else has, and until you’ve allowed or denied, default is “block”.
