In my quest to become educated, and “clean and protected” well enough, but not overboard, I am going back and reading a lot of older posts here. I am learning a lot about computers in general, as well as AV, malware, etc.
In this quest, I came across several posts regarding NoScript (and others) to use within FireFox. I tried to download it yesterday, and FF stopped it. It appears that I have to put something in FF’s “allowed sites add-ons” category? I just wanted to make sure that this is what should be happening, and that something isn’t amiss. If you think there is something better now, please let me know.
It is one of the best things you could have done for your firefox browser and your computer Internet experience security. It protects you for all known script/flash/etc. vulnerabilities and also those that have not been dreamt up yet,
DavidR, been doing so much to my computer recently, just haven’t gotten around to it. It’s on my list!
Finally did the defrag overnight last night. Slowly getting things done on the list. But having to intersperse it with work. Also have to update avast! to the current build. I’ve made so many posts here asking for help, that I’m trying to read, read, read old posts first, which is also taking some time–but I’m learning so much it’s worth the time!
I agree with the above recommendations to use NoScript, but for the sake of completeness in order not to confuse new users, we should point out that Giorgio does not recommend to allow install directly from the NoScript site. Noscript should be installed from the AMO site, which is exactly what the “Add to Firefox” button on the NoScript site does.
For the sake of extreme correctness, one should distinguish between “install” and “download”. Personally, I download the xpi files (official and development builds) from the NoScript site and install by dragging onto the Firefox window. This is for advanced users only
The current version of FF is 3.0.4. I think if you upgrade from V2 to the present version, installing NoScript will download nicely, based on my own experience.
I have the latest Firefox browser and recently added “NoScript” after Polonius suggested that site to me earlier. No problems. The instructions are very clear how it is to be used.

That’s really about it. Rather like learning to drive defensively on a highway. Just stay aware how to keep it clean and protected while learning what to do “just in case”. Education becomes knowledge and is priceless.
