My Internet Explorer has been hijacked (i.e. my browser web page cannot be changed from a site that I don’t want). What can I do?

Post the contents of your hijackthis log file here or you can check one of the on-line analysis sites to give an idea of the possible problem/s. Don’t take this as gospel and see advice.

Ignore any 023 reference to avast processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast), if you need any help with any of the analysis let us know.
This shows everything that is running on your system and should show what is hijacking your home page. I would say to download and run one of the programs in Item 1 plus Item 2 & 3 below before running the hijackthis program, which should lessen any other issues.
There are tools to detect these hijackings that may well be able to find and remove it.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.
- If using winXP AVG anti-spyware (formerly Ewido). Or SUPERantispyware Or Spyware Terminator. Or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.
- Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition
- Spybot Search and Destroy
- Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.
