"Not Enough User Rights"

Hi. I’m a new user. First time post.

Anyways, I’ve never used Avast before. My Norton subscription is about to run out in a month, and I need something to replace it with. I was trying to go ahead and install Avast today, but every time I do, it brings up an error message that says there are “not enough user rights” to install. The thing is, I AM logged under my administrator account, so there should be NO PROBLEM with user rights!!

Am I just doing something wrong? Do I need to make sure that Norton is uninstalled first?

The error code (000003FB) means “System could not allocate the required space in a registry log.”
So, it’s not really a problem with access rights… but doesn’t change the fact that avast! installer cannot create the registry key for avast! service.

So is there any way I can install the program? Or am I basically SOL? :-[

I’d rather not have to pay Norton another $40 bucks for another year of their crappy service. >:(

Any help at all would be very appreciated. :slight_smile:

I’d say you have to increase some kind of registry quota/space on your system… and I admit I don’t know how to do that that.
In any case, I believe any other antivirus program would suffer from the same problem - if it cannot create the registry key for its service.

Did you fully removed NAV before installing avast?

  1. Remove NAV or Norton 360 through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
  2. Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me. Boot.
  3. Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.

The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer.

SpacemanHardy, after you remove Norton and have avast! running and as Windows Service Pack 3 has been available for almost a year and contains several Critical Security updates plus performance improvements you need to start Internet Explorer then go to Tools then Windows Update and download all of the available updates.

Also you should enable Automatic Updates or at least be notified that Updates are available.

Go to Control Panel then Automatic Updates then select Automatic (recommended) or at least Notify me but don’t automatically download or install them.
