Not exactly new but different symptoms

I am running Windows xp pro SP3. All updates are current and all my programs are up to date with their latest versions. I’ve tried this several times but end up with the same results. I have allowed Avast newest version (free) to update itself and I have performed a clean install after removing Avast and using the uninstall utility. I’ve been running Avast on this computer for a long time and nothing changed with the exception of this latest version. After installing, while booting up, Avast continually restarts my computer. I have to go into safe mode everytime to uninstall. I have also disabled all non essential startup programs just to make certain there isn’t a conflict. After repeated efforts with this I uninstalled Avast and installed AVG without issue. I cannot get the computer to stay up long enough to get any time of memory dump file with Avast installed. I am hoping this will be solved as I prefer Avast to any other anti virus software.

Disable auto-reboot and see if you get a bsod.

OK, don’t mean to sound stupid, but what is a bsod? Are you referring to disabling auto reboot in XP or does the program have that option?

bcod= Blue Screen Of Death
No Avast does not have an auto-restart option, this must be applied using windows- Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance
