virus definition version: 151028-1

Replies are appreciated,

You have 2 problems.

1]
SP3 is not installed.
That means also many other security updates/patches/bug fixes aren’t installed.

2]
You are using a obsolete version of avast.
It is not supported anymore.
Time to get version 2016

I have Windows XP SP3 (with AVAST 8.0.1506) and I got the same error message when trying to update the viruses definitions (manually updating )
The downloading of the files begins but about halfway, it is interrupted by the following message

ERROR :not enough space

Last week I could download the viruses definitions without problems.

The problem is the old version of avast that you are using.

Well, how much space do you’ve left on your drive…!?

hello,
I have 16 GO of free space on my drive .

Moreover when making an attempt to download an update for the program, I receive the same error message
not enough space

It has nothing to do with free space on the drive.
The problem, as I said, is (very likely) that you are using a old version of avast.

Delete the current version completely.

  • Remove avast through control panel
  • Run the uninstall tool
  • Remove all leftovers
  • Install version 2015 (not 2016 since there are a lot of problems with it)

Follow Eddy’s instructions. I was using avast 8 till the 25th of October and I got the same problem. On the 26th updated to Avast 2015 and now I have been a happy user ever since. Mind you this version basically has no impact on your resources sice it is very light indeed.

Thanks Eddy.
I followed your instructions to delete the old version, restarted Win XP and then downloaded the new version of Avast free.
No more problems now.
Unfortunately ( ?) only the 2016 version was offered .

Nothing to worry, 2016 works well on XP.
