Not receiving email

I have a website and receive sales emails automatically from my site, since one of the recent avast automatic updates these are no longer coming through, they’re not even showing in junk mail (I’m using the avast free version). I use microsoft outlook to receive emails and have tried adding these related email addresses to my safe sender & receiver lists, but they still aren’t coming through. Is there anything I can do to ensure I receive all emails from my website? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Jane

Hi,
I’ve gone through this link and tried these things but it’s still not working. I get about 1 in 5 emails.
My email address is sales@mydomain.com.au when I do get the occasional email it says {Spam} in the subject line. It is not spam they are customer orders via my website. I desperately need to receive every single one of these emails. Is there anything else anyone can suggest.
Thank you.

I would Modify your post and remove your email now before spammers harvest it as these posts show up on Google. :o

I have found this below info in the help file but can’t find where I need to go in avast to do this, can anyone tell me which headings to click on?

On this page you can adjust the scan sensitivity settings and also specify additional actions to be taken automatically:

Mark in subject field of spam messages - you can also specify on this page that a message should be inserted into the subject field of any messages that are recognized by avast! as spam. If the box is checked, the message “SPAM” will be inserted in the subject field. To change the message, click on “Expert settings” and type the desired message in the box provided.
Add recipients of outbound emails to whitelist automatically - by default, addresses to which you send emails are automatically added to the whitelist so that subsequent replies will not be treated as spam. This box is therefore always checked by default.

have you tried to disable the e-mail scaning?

wont I then get other viruses from other emails

Does it work when the mail shield is disabled? (No, you won’t get viruses, anything will still get scanned by the file system shield). Trying this is needed to determine whether it’s avast! related or not.

(Note: You will have to temporarily enable encryption (SSL/TLS) in your email client if required by the email provider.)

P.S. Edit the post and remove your email address from that. You will get spammed otherwise.

I already told the OP, but he/she didn’t do it yet.

@ JaneG,

The suggestion doktornotor gave you in his last post is to help determine the cause. Thank you.

Sure you dont have Outlook in “offline mode”?

I have tried turning off mail shield but wont get a true indication of if this has worked until I receive a larger number of email sun/monday.

I’ve removed my email address from the post - thanks for the heads up.

I don’t think I have outlook in “offline” mode, but actually have no idea what this is or how to check it. I have had this email account set up for about 4 years and everything has been received fine until about last saturday. I hadn’t changed anything so can only assume it’s been caused by an automatic update in avast.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I’ll try this and jump back on here when I have a result.

On the right bottom corner of Outlook is a tab that says “Offline Mode”.

@ Jane
First you are using the avast free version in conjunction with a business and that breaks the free for Home and non-commercial use (both apply).

If you were using the Avast Internet Security suite (fine for business use), it comes with avast! Pro, avast! Firewall and an anti-spam module. This would no doubt give you greater control over what is a) considered spam and 0B presumably give you greater control over any exceptions, e.g. exclude the sales email coming from your web site domain name.

Hi,

I’m happy to upgrade to this, but before paying for it would like to know if it will definitely allow me to add my email address somewhere in the settings so that I always receive emails from it?
Is this an additional feature that the free version doesn’t have?
I was going to purchase this last week but am a little hesitant about doing so unless you can guarantee I’ll be able to do this. I wasn’t sure if this was a problem I’d have with all versions of avast and was wondering if I should try a different software program.
Other than this recent problem I have been very happy with Avast.
thanks.

There is a white list into the Antispam. You can do that.
Antispam works only in MS Outlook.
avast just scans the other emails, not block them.

Antispam is only in the paid version.

When going through to buy the other version it gave me a link to download a free trial which I did, but still can’t see this whitelist option. Is that because it’s yet another free trial?
What versions have this whitelist so I make sure I buy the correct version.
Thanks.

Read Tech’s reply again:

So if you downloaded the AIS version the Anti-Spam module is in that and it works in conjunction with MS Outlook. The trial version should have full functionality for the 30 day period, check the avast Help Center link in the avastUI; left click on the avast tray icon, once open it is at the top right of the window.

In the Help center you are looking at the Additional Protection, Spam protection, Expert Settings, Whitelist.

I can’t offer any practical help as I’m not using the AIS version, that’s me for the night, 3:25am here.
