I recently reformated and reinstalled M$ Vista Ultimate 32-bit and updated it completely. Vista Ultimate SP2 to be exact. And when I mean “recently”, I mean like 4 days ago… I also, just downloaded Avast! Free AV and installed it. The installation went flawlessly yet when the app opens, the first screen to show is a solid red banner within the avast UI saying my system is unprotected… when i try to select the “resolve all” button to turn the avast service on and to turn the self defense on, an application error pops up and it says:
avast! Free Antivirus: Windows - Application Error
The instruction at 0x00b77c6b referenced memory at 0x0000001c. The memory could not be read.
Click on OK to terminate the program.
So I click OK and it shuts it down. BUT the icon stays in the system tray until I mouse over it.
Also, when I open a web browser the avast! Online Security plugin works fine… IE, FF, Chrome… every single one… works fine…
Im not sure if it IS infact working or am I just seeing things wrong… Not sure what to do here.
I’ve actually even went as far as downloading the uninstall utility as well.
Deleted the avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe file from my program install folder (i have folder on my HDD that houses all my setup files for each installed prog)
Restarted in safe mode.
Ran the utility and removed avast!.
Restarted the machine in normal boot mode.
Ran CCleaner and the built-in registry cleaner within piriform’s CCleaner and rebooted AGAIN!
REDOWNLOADED the setup file to install avast!.
REINSTALLED avast!.
AND THE SAME THING AGAIN!!!
Is it just me or does avast just NOT work with Vista Ultimate anymore?
Does avast! offer legacy versions to download and then I could update to the most current version??? Should/Could I go that route?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
