You guys are really helpful and knowledgeable so I am posting here to ask for some help even though it (probably) isn’t due to malware/virus.
Within the last week and a half or so my computer has gotten stuck twice right after it logged into windows – right when all the program are loading up. Basically, the programs wouldn’t run and even pressing alt ctrl del wouldn’t really allow me to do much. I had to power off the computer and turn it back on (which I hate doing) and it asked me if I wanted to start in safe mode or start windows normally, I chose normally. Last time, it did a chkdsk on C and everything came back fine.
I’d like to know if there is a way to find out if something is wrong with the PC? Maybe browsing through the event viewer or something to see if there has been some kind of error or driver mishap that I can remedy before the problem becomes a (potentially) bigger problem.
Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
[*]Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Under Optional Scan ensure “List BCD” and “Driver MD5” are ticked.
[*]Press Scan button.
[*]It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
[*]The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
Download attached fixlist.txt to your Desktop. NOTE: => It’s important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.
Run FRST/FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait. If the tool needed a restart please make sure you let the system to restart normally and let the tool completes its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach it to your reply. Note: If the tool warned you about the outdated version please download and run the updated version.
The problem just happened again. Turned on PC, windows loaded up and everything looks good but when I click on any program it doesn’t open. If I click on start it just shows a blank tab – no ‘all programs’ or search. The only thing that was there was the restart, sleep, shutdown button. I clicked on restart, it took a while to initiate the process. It told me malware bytes was preventing it from shutting down. I clicked force restart, screen went blank, didn’t restart, I forced the PC to shut down.

Attach log reports ( ComboFix.txt) back to topic.
Ok thanks, but it seems like the problem is still there. Yesterday and just now it happened again. Seems like when I shut it down and then start it back up is when the problem occurs. Like I said, the desktop completely loads up but I can’t launch anything.
Do you have any suggestions on what I could do from here? Maybe you know of another forum that I could go to?
