but is OME A full version as in does it comes with a key to make my windows genuine??? ???
OEM is usually cheaper because Microsoft doesn’t have to provide support, that is done by the seller, who is normally the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). These system builders often get bulk purchase discounts and partnership deals, etc. this brings the price down for them, but they have to provide support for the end user (not MS). Now some of the big manufacturers like Dell might offer adequate support but others might hope you don’t need it or it is so bad as to be worthless.
You are only supposed to be able to purchase OEM versions of the OS when you purchase hardware, hence the OEM tag. Some might be prepared to sell you an OEM version, but who is going to support you if you have problems, especially if they are prepared to break the rule of OEM usage. I don’t know what the exact hardware is you need to purchase, it doesn’t have to be a system, you could probably find a hard disk would qualify, some even give away a RAM stick with the purchase.
OEM versions come with a key, which may or may not be valid, if you buy it from a dubious source and or without it being part of a hardware purchase.
It is a very grey area, If you were thinking of a new HDD or 2nd HDD you would probably be OK, unfortunately you would only know for sure when you hit windows update and WGA again. I suggest you enquire of the supplier of the OEM version about these concerns and probably most importantly how you install it and change the key relating to your old dodgy version.
OEM is not a ‘version’… OEM is a state where Windows is already installed in a computer.
You buy a computer with Windows installed (OEM).
You cannot ‘buy’ OEM version, you need to buy a computer…
I’ve heard that Tiger Direct can provide XP at OEM pricing if you’re building a computer. I’ve also heard there is an $18US part that can be purchased to qualify as a computer builder.
Sorry I don’t know what the part is - the person who gave me this information just purchased the part without asking what it was, so you might want to contact Tiger Direct or a similar vendor.
We have tried to tell you the answer and give our reservations, you really will have to ask sellers. We can’t say for certain, we aren’t Microsoft and don’t make the rules about qualification to purchase an OEM copy and for those reasons we can’t say yes only maybe.
