It indicates a failure to auto update avasts VPS file (virus signatures). The program update is on a less frequent basis so this is more likely to be the VPS.
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avast.setup access to the internet ?
if not the update process will fail.
When does this pop-up, directly after boot, etc. ?
What type of internet connection do you have ?
I think I got it when I gave it permision to access, but I want to be able to control when it does this. Like when I’m down/uploading, or playing an online game, I don’t want avast using up precious bandwidth. Can I limit it somehow?
So I assume by “It does now” that the update process is now working ?
avast checks for updates once you connect and then every 4 hours if you remain connected
You can decide the frequency/how it should update. Program Settings, Update (Basic) and either Ask when update is available. which would appear to be what you are trying to achieve Or set it to Manual. Mine are set to Ask, primarily because I’m on dial-up, however, avast updates are incremental and the VPS update are usually measured in KBs (averaging less than 25) not MB so it shouldn’t interfere much with your bandwidth.
