Four years ago I renewed my avast and had difficulty inserting a license and ended up having to buy it twice. Two years later a similar problem. I let it expire and then tried to renew and tons of problems. Finally got it sorted. Now this year, same crap all over again. Wish you guys would get your shit together. 1) Avast expired, click the annoying pop up telling me my product has expired, and renewed. 2) Avast not found on computer when buying license file…wow! It uninstalled itself two days after it expired. WTF. OK so now…download it…ok 3) Try to download…it asks if I want the free version or have I already bought it. Well, I already bought it. So I choose that option. NOPE! It wants a file, wants to open a file on my computer that I was not given when I bought and paid for my 2 year subscription. I was given an activation code. By email and at purchase time…only problem is, there is no place to insert an activation code…4) downloaded free version, and installed, and tried to enter activation code…nope…nothing there on my account. Oh wait I have a settings tab…so I look there and there is a subscription tab…I click that and voila! I can enter my activation code. Finally…what a convoluted renewal process…total waste of my fricken time. I expect better from a company like avast…
Not the product expired, but the license. What pop-ups you get to see is all up to you. You could have reversed to the free edition and registered that. The only one to blame is yourself.
It doesn’t uninstall itself, it stops working and asks you if you want to use the free version.
You have the choice what version you want to download.

Perhaps you didn’t see it, but there you where given the choice to insert a license file or use a activation code.
I expect better from a company like avast....avast is expecting that users pay attention ;)
