not working on my desk top

the virus scan works good on my laptop but it stops on my desk top befor it completes, says avast needs to close ??? dont no whats wrong

Which is your operational system, firewall, is there any error message… what did you do when the error occur?

i’ve got xp home, ya it’s firewalled,the scan just stop’s, it’s avast 4.7 the error says virus scanner has encountered a problem and needs to close ???i just have to x the scan out and start over

If you run ashsimp2.exe from avast folder, can you open avast?
