my avast internet security for some reason will NOT work anymore
i have used the uninstall utility in safe mode -reinstalled it and all it wants to do is most of the time the shields will not work or i am not secured and after i put my license key in…few minutes later it goes back to buy now like i am using the trial…what is going on…at the present time i am using kaspersky pure 3.0 which ain’t bad but damnit i want avast back…what is going on???
There really isn’t much information here, you say you used the avast uninstall utility from safe mode. But no detailed information on what you did as this should be a complete clean reinstall.
Unfortunately you have now complicated the issue by installing another AV as you will also have to ensure that is completely removed before you reinstall AIS.

Download the latest version of avast, 8.0.1489 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all versions).

- Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can’t do that (as appears to be the case, if already uninstalled) start from the next step, reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility in normal mode, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for 7.x if previously installed and then for 8.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. Uninstall kaspersky and reboot. - 4. Install the latest avast AIS version, reboot.
I had a similar problem when testing the new CIS 6.1 when I wanted to installed Avast free back, follow the instruction from DavidR first and don’t install avast just yet leave number 4 alone until you’ve checked all the kaspersky sub directories are gone (deleted) make sure nothing is left over check sub directories in ‘Program Files’, 'Program Files (x86), ‘ProgramData’, ‘Users\your name\AppData\Local’ and ‘Users\your name\AppData\Roaming’. Reboot you’re computer and run CCleaner to clean out you’re registry for leftovers reboot again and THAN install Avast Internet Security.

It isn’t in IE10, it is in windows explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View.
its checked but i looked everywhere and can’t find any remants or files unless in the registry
Have you tried an explorer search for avast5.ini whilst it is in this location C:\ProgramData\Alwil Software\Avast\ on my win7 system perhaps it could be in Users on yours.
You could try making a change in the avastUI, Settings that would be reflected in the avast5.ini file which may create it if not present. AvastUI > Settings > Updates > Details and change the Auto-update interval from the default value to something different 123 minutes (as there is no way that interval is a default), that would need to be recorded in the avast5.ini.
