I’ve tried to set Facebook as my home page on Firefox but each time I open my browser it goes to this page and I’m unable to change it.

so you got the snapdo browser hijacker
How can I get rid of it? Guess I should do a google search?
Yes, this is as Pondus says, your browser has been hijacked! It is an infection and it tries to redirect to malware related websites.
You could ask our qualified removal expert here to help you to get it off of your computer,.

I don’t have the toolbar. I’ve searched about how to remove it but everything I click on brings up WOT so I don’t go any further.
why google search?
have you not been in this forum long enough to know how to get help? http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
Why didn’t Avast detect this?
Detection of potentially unwanted programs is disabled by default.
bc it is a PUP … and PUP scan is default off all places exept in boot scan
posted many times in the forum…
I just scanned with Malwarebytes and it didn’t find anything. Should I do a boot time scan?
You could open a thread in the viruses and worms section.
Many people have this hijacker at the moment.
Hi -midnight,
It is not malware per se, but I would not like to have that possibly unwanted crap on my 'puter.
Removal guide here: http://www.wintips.org/remove-snap-do-search-snap-do-toolbar/
But why haven’t you sent a Personal Message to essexboy.
He will love to take you by the hand and guide you through the adware removal routine

It’s not listed in the control panel. I don’t have any tool bars. I ran a boot time scan and it didn’t show any pups.

Pondus supplied a link in reply 5, I’d suggest you follow the instructions and supply logs back here for an expert to look over for you or follow the instructions polonus posted in reply 11 to solve the problem yourself.
After you get it fixed you can surely get good advice on this forum on how to configure Avast to reach it’s full protection potential.
As Pondus explained the PUP (Potentialy Unwanted Programs) default configuration is set to “off” when Avast is installed. Turn it on and furthermore tell Avast how you want it to react to Viruses/ PUPs and any suspicious behaviour. In the Shield settings one can Fix auto/ Repair/ Delete, etc…(General>Active Protection>File System Shield/ Mail Shield/ Web Shield/Actions & Options).
I would be more than happy to turn on scan for PUPs if I knew how to do it.
Hope this answers your question:

Thank you so much.
Thank you so much.
You’re welcome.
You can also turn on PUP scanning for scheduled and manual scans within the scan settings.
