First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
I haven’t received anything like this.
There are many such scams (on popular programs), so it is essential be vigilant.
I use a paid program that I can pre-vet incoming email. I check the from email address and the reply email addresses these are a fairly good clue to the legitimacy of the email.
For me the “free 2 year upgrade based on data collection over previous years.” comment would be a concern.
I will try and attract some Avast Team attention to this topic.
I also just received this and was suspicious that it was too good to be true. The email it’s come from looks more genuine than the usual phishing type emails but I’m wary esp having found others saying the same thing….
Thanks everyone, I’m the same in terms of being cautious, the return email is “Avast_Claims_UK@avast.com” (checked the underlying link) so that is a strange one.
Update - I spoke too soon.
I have just received mine and it stinks to high heaven but appears to come from the avast(.)com domain/email address.
However, it smacks of something you would get from an ambulance chasing law firm. I think those who have responded in this topic so far have been wise to be suspicious.
There is now a link on the Avast website to this matter and it includes an email address. This states that you need to include receipts but I just sent my previous reply to the address on this page
Thanks for the pointer, wasn’t showing up for me at all until I opened in Chrome on my desktop… , phone didn’t show it in edge or chrome and desktop edge didn’t either… gotta love tech!
It’s now on their main page so…..? I’m not going to tell anyone what to do as I’m just a user like you, that’s why I came here and asked the question. But, unless they’ve been hacked, can’t see why else it would now be at the top of their main page.
Chat GPT reckons it’s genuine but suggests contacting Avast through its official UK support system and make them aware that their published claims address is rejecting replies. Tried their technical support and it takes me to a chatbot which says they can’t deal with the issue. Any idea how to contact support?
