Now I can't send email!

After many problems, including having to download that patch for upgrading, I was able to update to the newest version for Windows 7. It is functioning and getting definition updates and I can receive mail. I can no longer send mail from Thunderbird (which has been working fine for years till this Avast update and is the current version). I get a message that it must use STARTTLS. I switched that setting in my account and tinkered with different authentication (password, etc.) settings. I simply can no longer send email with any setting combination. When I was setting up the upgrade I had it not scan outgoing mail, as I had it set before. I can’t find where I even selected that within the Avast settings.

I was fine before I upgraded and now I can no longer send any email. Any thoughts? I appreciate any suggestions ASAP since I don’t have a lot of time to spend not being able to send email.

Hi,pshermanfl! Welcome to the forum!
Did you try to use system restore? Maybe you can delete this patch and all will ok?
P.S. where did you downloaded this patch and which patch?

Thanks for responding. I have since tried sending from an address I very rarely use, and they send. So I will delete and re-create the default account. I now don’t think this is an Avast problem, since it seems it would block all email addresses. Extreme coincidence that this started immediately after upgrading the program, but I don’t see how it can matter, unless it somehow gloms onto the default email. Makes no sense. I’ll explore other options.

You need to set the incomming and outgoing security to none in thunderbird then close it and reopen so that avast is able to handle the connection for you, avast should detect the settings automatically once reopened.
