NT Kernal & System running CPU 15% with nothing is going on (w/avast only)

I started this in beta but will post here since it’s still an issue. If I remove avast this CPU jump does not happen.

I kept noticing my fan speeding up after my laptop was on for a while. Because of some problems I uninstalled avast for a few weeks and remembered that when avast was not running this did not happen. Yet since I reinstalled again (current ver 8, but I noticed this with ver 7 too) the fan and CPU gets to running when avast in installed.

I’m not sure what NT Kernal & System does or means. This does not happen with another AV and seems to be avast related. Is there a way to get avast to leave this alone and not be using the CPU when it seems not necessary?
Thanks

Please use ProcessExplorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx) to find out where exactly the CPU time is being spent.
Thanks

Will do. But I’m not sure what I’m looking for, or at for that matter. I don’t even see NT Kernal & Sys in process Explorer, and it running (but normally at present).
Thanks

I think this is what is getting the CPU running above normal. ntoskrnl.exe

I’m not sure why it get going. Normally the NT Kernal & Sys is about 2% or so. But for seemingly no reason it jumps up to 12-15% and causes the fan to increase to a non-normal level.

One thought below was a virus, but I can’t imagine this is likely. In addition to avast and MBAM, I do occasional online scans as well.

Process Library site says the following:What is ntoskrnl.exe doing on my computer?
ntoskrnl.exe is a critical process in the boot-up cycle of your computer although should never appear in WinTasks whilst under normal circumstances.
Note: ntoskrnl.exe can be altered by the w32.bolzano and variants. If this process appears in WinTasks, please update your virus definitions immediately.
ntoskrnl.exe is a system process that is needed for your PC to work properly. It should not be removed. .

Any thoughts on this?
Thanks
