NTLDR is missing...

when i installed avast4 home edtion completely and restart PC,
there is a problem for my pc.windows can’t loader. the problem is:

NTLDR is missing… press any key to restart.

why?please tell me how to sovle the problem.thanks

It may not be a problem at all.
I just got this message when I scheduled a boot-time scan. The PC rebooted spontaneously and the message “NTLDR is missing” was on the screen.

I realized that a USB drive was inserted and the PC was trying to boot off of that. I wish the error message had more information in it.

Removing the USB device solved the NTLDR issue.

If you have a recovery cd XP ETC.
Boot from it and run recovery console on setup screen press R
Type admin password = (Blank)
Dos prompt should appear.
c:\windows.

  1. Type cd c: to go to the root of drive C.
  2. Type cd. the letter of the CD-ROM drive. If is D: as follows
  3. copy D:\i386\ntldr c:\
  4. copy D:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\
  5. Type Exit.
  6. Reboot. NTLDR REPAIRED.
