Virus is spread mainly through adverts
Ads on the Internet can be infested with malicious code. Translation services also can be malware ridden.
The most recent Finjan Web Security Trends states that over 80% of all malware is being produced in the USA.
The main results of this survey:
Commercial interests are the main motivation forCyberCrime.
Malicious code is more and more hosted on servers in the USA or United Kingdom, and less frequent from countries with a less advanced policy against CyberCrime: distant servers in mainland China, Russia, central-European countries and developing nations, as is our assumption;
For more than 80% this code can be dynamically manipulated making detection more and more difficult for traditional AV-vendors;
Malware code comes more and more embedded inside legit content, e.g. on-line ads and even in online translation service results.
Over 80 procent of websites with malicious code is hosted on webservers in the States. Other ‘top-hosters’ of malicious software are the United Kingdom (10 procent), Canada, Germany and Italy.
Malicious code can be found on legit websites (finances, travel) or dubious websites (pr0n, free downloads).
80% of malware fell under the catagory “adverts”’ “While so many parties are involved into online ads, it is relatively easy to contaminate legit websites with dynamic ads with malicious code. Even high security sites are vulnerable”
