Hello!,
A few days ago I installed the French version of AVAST program and it looks to work fine.
However I have two “newbie” 's questions to submit to your kind attention:
When connected to the internet and while pointing to the “a” icons in the tool bar, it shows something like “6 out of 7 services running” (approximative translation). What does it mean?
Should the windows XP antivirus & firewall remain “on”, or should I turn it off ?
Thank you for your advise.
There are seven resident providers, one of which is for MS Outlook (not outlook exchange), so if you aren’t running that application then it won’t be enabled. So that gives you 6 running out of 7 which is correct, if you don’t use MS Outlook.
Check out the avast Help file, Resident Protection, it gives an outline of each of the resident providers. There may be others that you don’t need, if you don’t use P2P or Instant Messaging applications then you could disable those.
avast isn’t a firewall so you need to keep your windows xp firewall on.
Windows xp doesn’t come with an anti-virus so are you talking about something else ?
Thank you very much for these quick and clear answers.
I was actually speaking of XP firewall only (my mistake).
Thanks again, I am actually impressed by the quality of AVAST system and services.
Congratulation!
No problem, welcome to the forums.
The congratulations belong to Alwil Software, I’m just an avast user like yourself.
