What does the number indicate on the Avast icon in browser as well as system tray.
What number?
Could you provide a screenshot?

Dont know how to provide screen shot. The number is now a zero but from time to time it may have a 1 on it. The number is inside a green box (icon in browser) located about 5:00 as you look at the icon. Same for system tray just different color scheme (yellow).

There are 2 Avast Icons, one that is green at the top and one that is yellow at the bottom. Notice that the green one has a number with it. Sometimes that number will be 0 or 1 or 2 ect… and sometimes the one at the bottom does the same. What do the numbers represent. I have looked in the manuals and could not find anything.

The icon top left in the browser tab, is the one associated with and supplied by the website you are visiting.
-
The one top right is the one for the Avast Online Security (browser add-on), it relates to the ranking for the page/tab that you have open (Green Good) and if there is any tracking on that page.

The bottom right of the screen is the avast tray icon it should be coloured as per your image. When avast is scanning something then it rotates, it doesn’t have any numbers associated with that, but it can also give indications on your security state. e.g. one or more Shields stopped/disabled/not running. These indications could be a Red circle with a white X over the tray icon, avast isn’t running; a Yellow triangle with an ! (exclamation mark) over the tray icon, one or more shields stopped or disabled, etc.
This one really shouldn’t have any numbers on it, so we need to see a screenshot if you can replicate it.
@ OP You may want to look into a free screenshot utility like http://getgreenshot.org/ another download location is http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/greenshot.html
@ Bob, David and Pondus thanks for covering this issue. As I wasn’t always near my laptop. 8)

Thanks everyone for your help. By the way, I was wrong about the one in the lower right (system tray). It does not have a number associated with it. Studying for a Cisco final and my brain is fried. Thanks again.

You’re welcome.
What I left out in my last reply, when you see a positive number in the Green avast icon at the top right, you can click the icon to open an information window and see the details relating to the site.
