NVIDIA Curiosity (RESOLVED)

As per Speccy, my computer has a 64MB NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (HP) Board in it.

With CCleaner I can see that the NVIDIA Drivers are installed, but I can’t see any sign of how updated or outdated they are. I don’t see any version or anything like that.

NOW … I see this on FileHippo: http://www.filehippo.com/download_nvidia_nforce_vista/

Is this or is this NOT the NVIDIA Drivers?
If not, would installing this be of any use if I am not into Gaming, Video Editing or any Graphics intensive activity?

Nvidia Gforce have massive driver installation files forceware versions and they have drivers for a whole range of nvidia gforce video cards. If you use a tool called GPU-Z http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2252/techpowerup-gpu-z-v0-7-2/ and that lists your Driver Version.

See http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

In all honesty if you aren’t a gamer with a decent video card already (NOT) then I wouldn’t bother upgrading the driver unless you have a specific driver problem, I would leave well alone.

Considering that this is not my computer and I’ll have to return it to my sister in about 2 months, I’ll probably take your advice and leave well enough alone, David.

The reason I entertained this NVIDIA curiosity is because somehow, for all its prowess and supposed superiority of this computer over my old prehistoric HP Pavilion 6730 with its infamous 256 Meg of RAM, 10 Gig Hard Drive and Celeron Processor … this computer actually has an ever so slightly noticeable inferior Video to my HP Pavilion. And I’m talking with using the exact same Monitor on both computers.

I have no idea why. I mean, this computer has a freakin’ NVIDIA Card, Windows Vista, an Athlon 64 X2 Processor, 3 Gig of RAM … and yet my HP Pavilion Dinosaur with its Windows XP, no NVIDIA Blah Blah Blah and everything presumably inferior … had slightly better Video quality.

Well I just changed this video card my other older one was actually more powerful nvidia gforce 6600 GT, but ran hotter and fan noise was also an issue, even though I’m not a gamer. This one is a silent on with a big heat sink so no fan, no noise and temps as 33c.

When I fitted it I thought to get the latest driver as it suggested when I installed the driver software. I downloaded the latest forceware version and saved it to my drive, uninstalled the original driver, rebooted and installed the latest forceware driver and it didn’t work. So had to remove it and reinstall the original driver that came with the card and DVD, it can be a lot of hassle with not a lot of reward.

Yeah, I would hate to get myself into one of those — Oh NO! I made it worse – situations.
