O/T about Avast!

Greetings to all Avast! Employees, Testers and Users,

As a very curious animal and ‘dual-knoid’ (paranoid) user all attempts to learn as much as possible about mine own system is paramount to me. Feeling comfortable and relaxed is also very important which can be provided by any and all security software. Alwil Avast! Anti Virus software, to me, the most important part of that comfort area along with a good FireWall. Microsoft is finally getting somewhere with providing more comfort with their systems, never to be fully 100%, but; much closer than they have ever been in their history.

Xcuse me, this is beginning to sound like a promo for Microsoft, I have been guilty of using many un-glamorous names for µBarf, just to name one that not many know what that means. The symbol mu means ‘micro’ and the remainder is obvious.

So take this as whatever you want, Vista is a disasta, even though Win7 is close to that it is much easier to work with and learn. I had Vista when I purchased my desktop and spent months trying to get into and up to speed, found an inexpensive copy of OEM Win7 Home Premium 64bit, my desktop is 64bit but Vista was 32bit. Needless to say that is all history now about 4 years ago and all seems to be doing very well.

I tried a copy of Win8 64bit and to remove it required a format of my HD to clear it for Win7 SP1 64bit which I did all by myself. Made the change in less than 45 minutes and was on the web downloading Avast! Free, Superantispyware Free, SpyBotSearch&Destroy/w TeaTimer, Mozilla FireFox, et ceteras. We each have our own way of doing thingys and what we do to make ourselves feel comfortable with our systems is what makes each one unique and our own.

I dont understand why you have created a topic for this ???

The only advice i would suggest is get rid of SpyBot - its outdated in it’s scanning abilities and teatimer will mess with avast, Malwarebytes is one of the most highly recognizable and cabable malware scanners to backup avast.

In my Mozilla FireFoix v13.0.1,

SpyBot Makes entries:

#1 “Block Pop-up Windows” under Exceptions RB as “Blocked.”
#2 “Load Images Automaticaly” under Exceptions RB as “Blocked.”
#3 “Accept Cookies from sites” under Exceptions RB as “Blocked.”
#4 “Warn me when sites try to install add ons” under Exceptions RB as “Blocked.”

Plus Tea Timer alerts when there are any changes to Registry entries with the abilility to Accept/Deny and Make Permanent.

Oh, the four (4) #ed lines above have many, in the hundreds, of sites that are blocked. If they did not place any thing there, who would? Or remain empty and then assume (spell that word, add the word “Make” in front. I do not need anyone’s help! I am good at doing this myself.) by the browser to be allowed. It may be outdated in scanning ability, but; there are several other features available not provided any place else.

Where is any of this from this MBAM?

Of course Malwarebyte does not do any of the the four items you listed, Malwarebytes is a better scanner than Spybot is what im trying to tell you, all the other blocking features you mentioned can be done by your browser along with a good firewall which makes SpyBot pretty much outdated in it’s technology and usless imo - plus the other fact that you should not be using teatimer with avast as it’s known to conflict.

Craigb,

Yes, this is probably true with most systems, 32 bit that is, mine is 64bit with dual core processor that runs like a quad. I have been told using more than one of any security software, antivirus, firewall, malware, et ceteras will cause my system to lock-up. I have been doing just that, running more than one some more than two without any lock-up.

As for those four numbered entries, they would be empty (MT), nothing there, if it were not for SBS&D. I have checked my system for these entries before SBS&D and after. The only way any entries are made if you do not use SBS&D is you, the user, need do it yourself. Some of those lists could be in the thousands, how much time would be required to make those entries? As for TT (Tea Timer) it has been used along with Avast! Free (over 2 years) and now Internet Security for maybe a couple of weeks without any conflict.

Now I suppose there will be an entry in Avast to cause even me a problem so I will need to make these un-necessary changes to conform to your idea of security for my system. When I am responsible for that. I feel Avast should see what they can do to prevent said problems and conflicts with TT so we have better protection for our systems. We, as the users of our systems, are our biggest problem in our security, Avast! in my opinion is the very best with all of the features there are within that system to protect the widest range of systems out there, BAR NONE!

Yes, also to Avast! monitoring our systems, but; there are not any alerts to changes in the registry when you make a change nor if any other software makes a change. We are not aware nor alerted. Avast! makes our decisions for us without letting us know anything or to set permanent changes or temporary. TT does do that. On my system without any conflict.

I am also expecting the threats to begin again, have a nice day

It’s your choice in the end what you use , we can only advise as to what we know conflicts with avast which is teatimer imunizing the system and not allowing avast to function correctly 8)

In my opinion, WinPatrol Free or Plus does a much better job at alerting you for anything new. It's less invasive and light on system resources and works well with all other programs. As already mentioned, it's still your computer and your decision.
