ODBC error on win95.

If you have any suggestions for further action to cure this problem,
I would appreciate it, thank you.

ODBC error on win95.

Description:
The resident tasks fail to run.
Avis Antivirus scanner runs normally.

Symptons:
The avast! Log viewer lists the following Error:

ODBC function SQLConnect() failed. Error description: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Could not find file ‘(unknown)’…

followed by numerous lines of:
During parsing of D:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\deftasks.xml XML document following error occured: C.

From the On-Access protection control,
If I try to start the ‘internet mail’ or ‘standard shield’ I get the error:

The resident task was not found.
The task could not be completed.

The log viewer also displays the listed Error messages with missing characters in the Date, time column in a staircase effect.
This may be an unrelated problem.?
e.g.
Date,Time Name Application Description
.2003 22:58:15 etc. etc. etc.
03 22:58:15 etc. etc. etc.
22:50:15 etc. etc. etc.
52:15 etc. etc. etc.

Platform:
avast version 4 Home Edition, build Feb2003-2(4.0.172)
Windows 95 (version 4)

Actions taken:
Following advice from previous posts I downloaded and installed a newer version 2.6 of
MDAC from microsoft [mdac_typ.exe and Jet40Sp3_Comp.exe]
I have also tried editing the Avast4.ini file and changed the
[Common]
Database=odbc
-to-
Database=xml

This has not resolved the issue, as the symptons remain the same.

ajdarby,
please try the following:

open the file \deftasks.xml (e.g. in Notepad), and on its first line, replace the text

=“windows-1250”

with

=“windows-1252”

That could solve the problem you’re seeing.

Thanks,
Vlk
