I recently switched from AVG to Avast after reading numerous favorable reviews of Avast. Including it receiving a higher ranking than AVG from numerous reliable sources.
First things first, my computer:
OS: Vista Ultimate SP1
Firewall: Vista FirewallControl (a freeware app that creates rules using Vista’s own firewall)
Anti Virus: Avast! 4.7 Home Edition
My issue is this:
Whenever I boot (and only when I boot) I immediately have no connection whatsoever. If I right click the Active Connection icon in the taskbar, go into “Diagnose and Repair” and then select “Automatically get new IP settings” my connection restores and everything works just fine. Obviously, my connection issue isn’t the end of the world (all I have to do is repair it whenever I reboot), but I do find it odd. I don’t want to disable Web Shield, as it works just fine after I repair the connection.
WebShield can’t be guilty… I can’t imagine how.
Did you block ashWebSv.exe connection to Internet? I don’t think so as you can connect later…
Are you using a wireless connection?
Nope. ashWebSv.exe is enabled both way. After one of my boots I actually turned off On-Access Protection (without repairing the connection) and I was still unable to connect. Only after using Vista’s connection diagnostics was I able to get my connection restored.
Nope. I am landline connected to a LinkSys DI-524 router that plugs into a Siemens DSL modem. My service is through NTelos.
This problem did not occur until I installed Avast! Irregardless, this really isn’t that big of a deal, as I usually just put my computer into Hibernate. When the system restores and I log in from Hibernation, my connection is fine. The connection only seems to need to be repaired after boot. (either startup from being off or from a restart)
Oops. Yeah, you’re right. I own a D-Link DI-524. A darn good router. Sorry, my old router (which died a rather quick death) was a LinkSys. I must have switched the two companies around in my head for some reason. Anyways, I connect landline via cat-5.
