During the scan of my Hp PC last night the Office 2000 was removed during the scan by the avast program now when I try to open a word Doc it wants me to re-install office because it is not there Can anyone give me some advice. the notation tols me to install the office installation disk the problem is the my hard drivr id currently not functioning, How could this happen?

Larry

Thank you for the post Is there a way to take it back out of quarantine for the moment my cd/dvd is not working so I cant re- install the office disk ? and might be a dumb thing but I have never used system restore before.

A few other people seem to be having a similar problem in the link below. If Avast quarantined the files you can revert them back, otherwise you may have to install office again. Or maybe a restore point might help.

How do I revert the quarantine on the word app file from avast

thanks Larry

Restoring a file from the chest, needs other actions or it is likely to be sent straight back to the chest.

First you have to exclude the file from further scanning (as was mentioned in the link given by Dumper), or add it to the avastUI, Settings, Global Exclusions. You can open the virus chest and right click on the file and select Properties (see image example). This will show information about this file, including its original location. In the Global Exclusions click the Add button, Copy the folder location and file name into window.

Once you have done that you can nor open the chest, right click on the file and select Restore. This will send a copy oif the file back to the original location, confirm that it is back in that location and (only then) delete the copy remaining in the virus chest.

I would like to thank you as well as Dumper for your assistance your method worked perfectly and my system is up and running again. Antivirus program can be a bit of aggravation but the are very well worth the effort… Avast is on top of it! I love it Thanks
