I just installed Avast yesterday, after using Avira which worked fine but was annoying for a few reasons.
I use the following apps on Windows 10.
A simple POP/IMAP checker that allows rules to be processed before the emails are actually received on the computer. This can also run sandboxed or can be set to only check headers.
Office 365 Outlook
None of the above applications can check for email.
Outlook can not send email either.
If I uncheck ‘Scan inbound mail (POP3/IMAP4)’ receiving mail works fine.
And if I also uncheck 'Scan outbound mail (SMTP) then Outlook can finally send email.
I tried a lot of things such as exporting the Avast certificate and importing it into Outlook but this did not help. This might though be good since the other app does not allow certificates to be imported.
How can I set up Avast to be used on my system and be protected?
Thank you for the support.
I must say removing Avira is a major pain! You have to do the individual modules separatelay and they don’t tell you which one should go first. Looks as if they simply don’t want you to uninstall, one of the gripes against Avira.
I have just downloaded and run the Registry cleaner from Avira but it says some keys were not found.
I then did a search for Avira on the local disk and found a lot of stuff that was not removed.
I am in the process of both removing these manually and then cleaning the registry by hand.
I will then first check if Avast works.
If not, I will uninstall Avast with the application I downloaded through the link you provided (thank you).
Then, I will reinstall Avast and report back.
I just finished and Outlook still does not work, nor does the simple mail checker.
So I just thought I would add the default pop/smtp to the safe connection settings in the ‘Troubleshooting’ tab which seems to work: I could receive email again in Outlook.
But only once: again Outlook can’t receive emails. It says the connection is interrupted or that the server does not support the connection method that was specified.
So I removed the entries from the ‘Safe connection’ again. And both programs could now receive email.
But again: only once.
Each time I change something in Avast, this helps one time.
I have to undo this in Avast again to trigger the ability to receive email again.
Now, I see emails are ready on the server.
But Outlook can’t download them unless I disable Avast’s email shield.
This is not the way it should be. I hope someone can help because I really need to email with protection on.
I am used to things working smoothly, I was wanted to test Avast and purchase it if this works fine but am not sure this would be a good choice.
