Official Avast Response: Step-by-Step File Recovery after VBS:Malware-gen fiasco

We need an Official Step-by-Step Recovery Guide for deleted and quarantined files
as a result of the False Positives and Avast Errors with the VBS:Malware-gen virus.

Most needed is an Official Response to recovering Windows files (operating system files and more)
or other OS files that were deleted after Avast recommended a boot scan.

Step-by-step instructions. What do do, how to do it. For each OS.

For those files moved in the Virus Chest: then actions to take on how to restore those.
Yes, there is a link to to how to use the Virus Chest, but put all this recovery info in one Sticky Thread
so it’s all together, and easily accessible from one webpage.

This was an enormous headache. Avast needs to correct its massive screw-up.

I don’t want to take any additional steps until Avast provides solutions coming directly from them.

Steps might be: using System Restore and Windows Recovery, restoring items in the Virus Chest or other actions,
repairing corrupted files, re-installing Windows or another OS. And, what to do if your OS simply doesn’t work
after Avast’s error on VBS:Malware-gen.

No kidding. An apology is insufficient. Avast needs to actually fix the mess they’ve made.

You can’t just say, “other OS.” IT DOESN’T WORK THE SAME.
I’m on a Macbook, and I may still have the VBS:Malware-gen on my computer, SOMEHOW…
People don’t seem to know how to react to this particular worm’s presence on a Mac, since ALL I CAN FIND are Windows instructions and a TON of stuff saying ‘System Restore’ … which OS X does not have…
I can’t even locate the correct virus!

See my issue on my thread.
In addition to that, all four things that Avast says were the sources of the virus were just random files in my Avid Media Composer software… which I have had for a month and Avast never saw problems with it before…
So I’m new to this whole virus deletion deal, especially since my ‘delete’ button wants to ‘restore’ instead of delete… :o

I am working from a Mac, and I got the VBS:Malware-gen false-positive, too. However, this process does not help Mac users. Especially since it seems like I am the only OS X user who got the issue…
