Official comment.

To Alwil staff.

May I ask if it possible to post an “official” list of known bugs, problems and issues with the latest version of Avast!

Reading through the forum posts, it would seem that many people are chasing answers to similar questions and are being referred back and forth between threads.

I think it would be beneficial, for a “compiled official view” on the situation. Detailing what are real problems and what are more likely to be configuration issues.

Perhaps there are no known issues!, in which case it will be assuring to know that there are valid configuration/external issues needed to be tracked down.

Thank you for any consideration.

Many “problems” people currently have are caused by changes in Avast and the fact that people do not read what those changes are and (if needed) change the settings in Avast or other application as instructed.

And before creating a “bug” list.
What exactly is a bug?
When exactly is somethig a bug?
People will interprete the word “bug” all in their own way. So what one is calling a bug, another will not see it that way.

And there are more things like:
Let’s say your mail scanner is not working. I have the same email client and the same version of Avast. On my system it does work. Is this a bug or not?

First of all simulair doesn't mean it is the same. Each system is different. Secondly: - many (most?) people do not read the help/manual prior to asking - do not read other posts that are already on the board prior to asking - do not use the search function prior to asking

Especially when people would do the last three things I mentioned, there would have been a lot less threads here.

Thank you for the response.

And before creating a "bug" list.

I feel you have misquoted my sentiment if not the word. I referred to bugs, problems and issues as a collective to address the “possible” situation. To place emphasise on my use of the word bugs, takes my remarks out of context.

That is why I used the word “similar” and not “same”.

Especially when people would do the last three things I mentioned, there would have been a lot less threads here.

Some people do read the manual, read the threads and search the forum and for whatever reason do not resolve their problem.

Some people might prefer to know if there is a ‘recognised’ (official) problem list, prior to chasing around the forums. Strangely, this might prevent the message load on the forum and be of use to those who have a different perspective on finding information. Each to there own… and this would be one of my methods of choice.

Alwil staff?.

I agree with you…
Nowadays there are so much similar threads that’s becomming impossible to follow :frowning:

Thank you for your response.

Thank you.

I agree with you too

Unfortunately, I (sort of) have to agree as well. It’s quite difficult to isolate the individual issues (and match the same ones).

Anyway, we’ve already done enough fixes so a new update should be out really soon.

Thank you also Vlk.

Naturally the update will be appreciated and I accept that the INews will offer some information, but would it be possible to post a list of known “issues” (I use that term loosely before it is picked up!), both current and what will be fixed in the upcoming release?.

I feel it would be a great help for users to understand if they are chasing an Avast! problem or a configuration issue.

Yes please build a FAQs section - and place a direct link to it at the top of each of the forums in a different colour from the rest of the page so it’s noticeable - otherwise people won’t read it they’ll skim it.

Hello Gillie2tat,

Not a bad idea, but I’ll guess that the Alwil staff are a little too busy to do all of that.

However, a list description of known issues would be a good start… imho

Maybe make it sticky so that it stays at the top of the relevant forum and lock it so that only the moderators post to it?

Yes I agree with ‘sticky’… but it is only for the life of current issues.

I also strongly agree that it should be an ‘official’/‘Moderator’ only post.

Thank you for the input. Let us hope something can be done.

Look HERE, there already is a FAQ on this board, sticky and locked.

Unfortunately this does not cover what we are discussing… which is born out by the person who started that FAQ also agreeing that something along the lines we are discussing in this thread is needed… ie Technical.

So glad to see you and VLK agreed
I have been sitting back just waiting until I read a more official sounding post from one of the “main guys”
I admit to be a VERY catious person and NEVER upgrade even the most reliable utility on my PC (avast) -serious- until a weeks worth of forum info but I couldn;t make head nor tails of the problems

Rick
side note (I still haven’t upgraded to Sp2 either
but now its a desicion I understand it all but decided all they offer me I already have been protecting my XP and feel safe

Exactly as I see the situation.

As individuals, we all take in information in different ways. Searching may quiet rightly suit some… although it doesn’t help when searches bring up many contradictory or just plain different answers/opinions from many users. Others might prefer to see a compiled list of issues.

An official perspective would certainly help me. Perhaps Vlk will come back to this thread and comment further.

I agree with everyone on the thread.

I installed avast 4.5 days ago and have read the help index, many threads, asked many questions, tried many workarounds and am just going around in circles.

That’s not to take any thanks away from the forum helpers because they are swamped with questions, but
it makes it frustrating for all when each does not know what’s causing the problems, avast or config.

Regards.

Hello Red,

Very well put, including the part about the good attempts the forum helpers are making.

Unfortunately, after tongue in cheek agreeing with us, we don’t seem to be getting any further response to this thread from the Alwil staff themselves, which seems a shame, if not, also a little discourteous.

I am guessing that Alwil are expecting the new release to fix some problems. I also have a terrible feeling that the new release will be issued today or over the weekend when support resources are limited and sadly more confusion will result!.

With the situation left as it is, many users will have changed settings/configurations and will be deeper in problems. A list of problems so far, there remedies, where they exist and a list of fixes address in any new release would still (imho) help us all.

I will click the ‘Notify Moderator’ button on this thread and hope they come back again.

Regards.
