Offline Computer

Hello,
This is my firt post, and I have a relatively simple question (hopefully).
I’ve just moved from (A)nother (V)irus (G)adget to Avast, looking for something

  1. simple enough for my parents to use and maintain;
  2. that gives a high level of protection;
  3. that doesn’t take over the machine, and doesn’t require a high-spec PC to run.
    So far, so good, I’ve installed on my 2 machines in order to check it out, and all seems fine.
    One question:
    My 2nd PC is my main machine, used for recording music mainly. It ISN’T normally connected to the net, but it is networked with the others. Can I keep the VDB up-to-date without connecting to the net with this PC? Can I copy the appropriate file(s) from my 1st computer, which is online? If yes, which file(s) do I need to copy across?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mort

Yes you can download the complete VPS file.

avast! VPS Update - Manual Download - For updating an off-line systems, download using a system with internet connection, save the file to a CD or USB drive or network computer and transfer it to the off-line system and run it to update the VPS signatures file.

Welcome to avast.
There are a lot of ex-AVG users nowadays here :wink:

Hi,
Thanks a lot for the info - clear, unambiguous, and simple - just how I like it :-[
I gave up with the other program when it refused to install the latest version, claiming my Win2k was out-of-date, it certainly isn’t. I’m sure it’s been responsible for problems both parents have had sending mail, and the auto update seems to be broken nowadays.
So hopefully Avast will suit everyone - its been tested on both my machines - I’m not sure if I will leave the siren enabled when it goes on to the other PC’s ;D My father is liable to panic attacks when his computer does aything unexpected.
Thanks again,
Mort

No problem, glad I could help.

Welcome to the forums.

Now that’s pretty clever, very nice. ;D :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s a possibility I might be doing that myself.

Best Regards…

Me as one of them :slight_smile:

Let me guess, was it just a spurious error message, or have you committed the “cardinal sin” of having Windows 2000 installed on a FAT32 partition? :o
