I just uninstalled v7.0.1466 using Windows “Programs & Features”, rebooting and then deleting everything that looked like an Avast file folder. So a reasonably clean custom install of 9.0.2018, with no cloud or any other online services, only auto download of definitions.
Reboot, wait for the scan to finish, reboot and start to set up. The Systray icon simply would not stop spinning. Click on “Register”. “Store” appears, and a “Loading” box with a spinning wheel. “Loading” disappeared, and “Store” started flashing on and off. As in the page contents were being replaced with a blank screen.
Stop everything, reboot, start over. Nada.
Search the forum. There is one post, “thetao” at https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=141379.msg1027720#msg1027720, who mentioned that his cure involved unblocking ssl.google-analytics.com in his hosts file. I have that in my hosts file.
I’m a bit concerned here. One of the Avast! options is a “Do not track”… And anyway, blocking google-analytics should not prevent the registration process.
Is there something I’ve missed?
I should mention my current registration on v7 was due to expire tomorrow.
Gordon.
Hi I would recommend a full clean install as parts of V7 may have been left behind
Download Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel
[]Run the uninstall tool and accept the reboot to safe mode
[]Once complete reboot your system
[*]Reinstall Avast

Hi essexboy - Thanks for the reply.
As registration seems to be the only thing not working, I used Plan B and manually registered, which all went smoothly.
However, if problems persist, then I will definitely apply the acid wash.
EDIT: Silly question: does it matter which uninstall utility I use? I already have one “aswclear.exe”, 370KB, v8.0.1489; and I downloaded just now “avastclear.exe”, 508KB, v9.0.2018. END EDIT
Gordon.
Yes always use the latest version of aswclear
glad it is resolved
