okay whats the deal...

For those who don’t know, I am running Windows ME (until I can afford a new computer…had to sell my previous one :frowning: ) anyways, i know it’s THEE most insecure OS out there. But for now I have to work with what I got.

Ok, just got done with a 6 hour thorough, archive enabled scan in safe mode. It detected 7 infected files 2 of which it cannot delete, fix, or move to chest.

C:_RESTORE\ARCHIVE\FS287.CAB\W0145425.CPY
C:_RESTORE\ARCHIVE\FS287.CAB\W0132315.CPY
Both of them have tested positive for “Win32:dialer-407[trj]”

So how do I go about fixing these? or is it a false-positive? the “.CPY” extension is what concerns me the most…hmmm.

If you follow the instructions here: http://www.pchell.com/virus/systemrestore.shtml

That should get rid of them. System restore makes copies of files so you can restore them later. ( even infected ones)

That’s why most people here will tell you to disable system restore before cleaning you computer, Then turn it back on.
