Old guy needs help!-moneypak

I know just enough about computers to be dangerous.

The FBI scam-money pak notice or green dot or whatever actual name the virus is, showed up on a page I was viewing in Chrome. I exited via ctrl, alt, delete and it went away. I can also access word documents. But, before I shut down my computer I’d like to make sure that it’s really gone.

Did my Avast AV take care of this automatically or are there other steps I need to take?

If you want a check…

Attach Malwarebytes and Farbar Recovery Scan Tool logs

Thanks…I guess. lol I take it that my AV did not take care of it automatically and it lurks in my computer somewhere???

It seems awfully complicated and with today being Veteran’s Day I’m going out to feast on all of the free meals. If someone had told me in 1971 that a veteran would get free meals someday I’d have laughed. In any event, is this something that can wait? Is there anything that I shouldn’t do(like shut down or reboot)? Is there anything that I can/need to do in the short term?

Thanks for your patience!

It is your computer ;)

you just download the two programs and run them as instructed (Malwarebytes must be installed first) and attach the logs they produce

Many thanks! I ran Malwarebytes and the scan was clean. As well, I downloaded the Farbar Recovery Tool and the instructions just in case for the future.

you download latest/updated version when needed by a expert that know how to read the logs and create a fix based on that log so not a tool for the average/novice user and not meant to keep on your computer

Malwarebytes you may keep and do a weekly/monthly scan with
